Parent Survey - English

November 24, 2009

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Venice High School is in the process of developing a Small Learning Communities Plan. The goal is to implement the plan in September 2010. Small Learning Communities (SLC) are designed to personalize the learning experiences of students in a large comprehensive high school. Typically, a SLC consist of a small group of students (350-500) along with teachers, counselors, and administrators who develop a separate and distinct personal learning environment around a common focus or theme. All high schools in LAUSD are in various configurations of SLC. Types of Small Learning Communities include: Magnet schools which have a common focus (i.e. Foreign Language, Academies, which have a career focus (i.e. BBFA), and Houses which group students by or across grade levels.

We are surveying all stakeholders in order to determine the needs of the Venice High School Community. The survey asks questions about your beliefs and perceptions of the school. The information gathered from the survey will help us plan Small Learning Communities around those expressed needs. The students have already responded to the survey. We have collected over 2000 surveys from students. The surveys are presently being tabulated.

The parent and staff survey will be available on the Venice High School website venicehigh.net within the next couple of weeks. We will also provide hard copies of the survey at Parent Conference in both English and Spanish. In addition, we will send hard copies home with students, so that parents who do not have access to a computer may respond to the survey by hand and return it to the school. Those surveys that are completed online will be tabulated by the website managers. All others will need to be tabulated by hand.

Please participate in this important survey. Your responses will guide the development of our Small Learning Communities Plan. Please complete and submit the survey on line or return the hard copy to the school by December 18, 2009.

Thank you for entrusting your children to us.

Sincerely,

Lonnie Wallace
Principal
