ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAMS
Venice High School offers students a unique blend of challenging intellectual experiences and broad extracurricular opportunities within the context of a socially diverse student body.

WHY VENICE HIGH?
As a "LEARN" school, Venice's faculty and administration are committed to innovative reform while at the same time maintaining time proven traditions of academic excellence.  Venice's course offerings and extracurricular programs are among the broadest available at any school in Southern California, ranging from Mandarin Chinese to Advanced Placement (AP) Physics, photography to choir, swimming to golf.

Venice graduates annually gain admission to top universities and colleges including Ivy League schools, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Cal Tech, as well as the University of California campuses.  To parents who have had their children successfully complete the rigourous academic program, Venice High is known as "the best kept secret of the Westside".

WHAT IS THE "ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM"?
In 1998, responding to community demand, the Los Angeles Unified School District established the Advance Studies Program to expand instructional programs designed to meet the needs of gifted/talented students.  Increasing numbers of identified gifted and highly gifted students in the district has resulted in a critical need to expand options for appropriate programs and support.

Students not living in Venice's attendance area may attend through a special Advanced Studies permit or by gaining admission to the magnet program.

Based on Venice High's already established success in offering Advanced Placement and Honors courses, the school was selected as a "Phase1" implementation site.  Through the Advanced Studies Program, Venice will expand and upgrade its offering of these courses and at the same time provide the resouces to support instruction for participating students.

VENICE'S FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MAGNET
Attracting students from across the city, the Foreign Language Magnet has made a significant contribution to Venice's overall academic excellence.  In addition to offering a wide diversity of language instruction, the magnet has a traditional sequence of honors mathematics courses.

Over half of the students enrolled in the magnet are identified gifted or highly gifted.

Transportation to Venice is provided by the district for magnet student living outside the Venice - Mar Vista area.  MTA, Santa Monica and Culver City buses all have stops either directly in front of or within a block or two of the school as well.
