Venice High School New Media Academy
About the NMA Created in 1999, the New Media Academy (NMA) implements current trends in education, providing a college preparatory education with a focus on "real world," career skills. As a small learning community, the Media Academy makes its home in a “state of the art” studio where one can find the students creating web pages, editing videos, and working on all of their class projects.
The Curriculum The New Media Academy focuses on incorporating technology into the academic curriculum to create projects that demonstrate competency in the subject matter.
Completion of the Media Academy curriculum, which includes honors and regular classes, will satisfy the minimum UC and CSU entrance requirements. Upon graduation, students will have greater knowledge of the use and application of new technologies, as shown by their digital portfolios and/or film reels that demonstrates their special abilities.
Our instructors provide interdisciplinary, individualized instruction and meet regularly to discuss how to best meet the needs of our students. We offer our students job shadowing, mentoring and internships with industry professionals.
To Apply To be eligible, entering tenth-grade students must be ready to enter Geometry. The academy requires that each student maintain a “C” average in all courses, at least a 90% attendance rate, and sign a contract stating that he/she will honor all the academy rules and requirements, including a commitment to a three-year course of study. In many cases it is necessary for the students to attend summer school to meet all of the course requirements.
Interested students should complete an application and return it to Mrs. Roche-Blair in the Counseling Office or to Mr. Alexander in Shop 7.
